vomFASS: Back to the Future and Beyond

vomFASS has enjoyed unprecedented success from its modest beginning as a German wine importer to an internationally respected purveyor of gourmet oils, vinegars and spirits.  Throughout the past 30 years, vomFASS has grown from the original shop in Waldburg Germany to a global presence of almost 300 stores.

After a collaborative decade between VOM FASS USA and VOM FASS AG, the company has reunited back into one global company.  USA franchise operations will be managed and fostered through the newly formed company TK Franchise Operations, LP (TKFO) under the leadership of Thomas Kiderlen, CEO of VOM FASS AG, and son of the visionary founder of vomFASS, Johannes Kiderlen.

According to Thomas Kiderlen, “There will be a significant reduction in costs.  Communication, marketing and support services will be increased and restructured to focus on improving franchise partners success and performance.  Our already strong US team will be enriched through active support of the entire German team.  Product lines will be expanded to enhance our product offerings.”

The official date of the changeover was June 1, 2016.  TKFO brings many exciting changes and promises to deliver a sleeker and more profitable franchise model to the US. Among the significant changes TKFO offers is the shift from a royalty-based model to a manufacturing/distribution-fee model.  This innovative model is a change from the traditional royalty, based on a percentage of the gross retail sales of a store, to a fee based percentage of goods purchased; thereby, substantially reducing fees paid to the franchisor.  Additionally, TKFO has reduced the cost of warehouse goods and eliminated the Ad Fund, both directly improving profit margins for franchisees.  Renewal and transfer fees have also been eliminated.  Currently TKFO is negotiating with the POS systems in use for additional profit impact.

Another impactful change is the relocation of the vomFASS warehouse from Madison, Wisconsin to Las Vegas, Nevada.  This move offers shipping from a more accessible route reducing costs of shipments to the west coast dramatically, while increasing costs only marginally for the east coast.  Everyone benefits through more efficient routing and updated inventory management.

Former vomFASS USA president, Justin Gibson will now resume duties as a franchise store owner, running the very successful flagship store in Madison, Wisconsin.  Mr. Gibson expressed excitement about the changes within vomFASS and said he looked forward to becoming a hands-on manager again and was eagerly looking forward to reacquainting himself with the customers he missed and his growing family

vomFASS is now in the hands of the original founders and is headed for even greater success…..Back to the Future.

We asked Thomas Kiderlen and his wife Samira what their favorite recipes with vomFASS products are.

Thomas: “I usually eat two salads a day.  It’s never boring because of all of the flavor combinations I can create with vomFASS products.  Right now, I am on a vomFASS Honey Balsamic Vinegar with vomFASS Jalapeño Extra Virgin Olive Oil kick.”

Samira: “I love our calamansi vinegar and San Gimignano olive oil on avocado, mango and feta salad.”
