VomFASS wins coveted iTQi awards

The International Taste and Quality Institute (iTQi) in Brussels is the leading independent chef and sommelier based organization dedicated to testing and promoting superior food and drink from around the world.  120 judges are selected from the 14 most prestigious European culinary and sommelier associations.  These associations include:  the Maîtres Cuisiniers of France and Belgium; the Academy of Culinary Arts; the Hellenic Chefs’ Association; the Académie Culinaire of France; Verband der Köche Deutschlands; Jeunes Restaurateurs d’Europe; the Federación de Asociaciones de Cocineros of Spain; Federerazione dei Cuochi Italiana; the Portuguese Chefs Association; Årets Kock of Sweden; the Euro-Toques and the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI).

The iTQi Superior Taste Award is a unique and highly respected international recognition based upon a jury of Michelin starred chefs and sommeliers, all of whom are influential leaders and experts in taste.

This year vomFASS received awards for both the Apple Balsamic Vinegar (3 stars) and Calamansi Balsam (2 stars). vomFASS also received the Crystal Taste Award for the Blueberry Balsamic Star as well. The Crystal Taste Award is given to products that have received 3 stars 3 years in a row. These products are successfully blind-tasted 3 years consequently by 3 different panels of judges earning a score of 90% or above.vomFASS owner, Thomas Kiderlen, delivered a speech at the awards ceremony in acknowledgement of receiving the Crystal Taste Award.

Similar to the Michelin guide of gastronomy, iTQi does not organize a competition, but rewards products on their own merits. Only those products receiving a mark above 70% can be granted a Superior Taste Award of one, two or three golden stars. ITQi golden stars represent:

  • 1 golden star equals an overall mark between 70 and 80% and achieves the rank of “good taste”
  • 2 golden stars equals an overall mark between 80 and 90% and achieves the rank of “remarkable taste”
  • 3 golden stars equals an overall mark over 90% and achieves the rank of “exceptional taste”

Judgements are based upon a sensory analysis measuring intensity of gustatory pleasure.  During the tests each product is subjected to an individual blind tasting according to a rigorous sensory analysis procedure. The tasters are asked to evaluate the products as if they were having them in their family home, not according to the standards of their restaurants.

Every evaluated product is scrutinized in the shape of a sensory analysis report for which criteria such as olfaction, vision, taste, after taste, texture, etc. are all taken into account by each jury member. The latter also write comments and, when needed, suggestions for improvements.

After the tasting session, iTQi draws up a detailed graph of the different grades and summarizes the comments and suggestions of the Jury members for the participating companies. This information is greatly appreciated by the producers as it helps to better understand the jury’s opinion and become aware of potential areas of improvement.

These highly respected awards offer valuable credibility to the vomFASS product line.  In addition to pointing out yet another difference between vomFASS and the competitors, these honors bring international affirmation of high quality.    The Superior Taste Award label can be prominently displayed on product materials and is licensed to that product for a period of 3 years.  This is an invaluable marketing tool as well as a guarantee of the highest quality to our customers.
