Arturo and Maria Pimienta, The Woodlands, Texas

Toni Jakovec:  Hello Maria and welcome to vomFASS.

Maria Pimienta:  Thank you so much.

TJ:  I understand that you are in Texas, but where exactly?

MP:  We’re in a suburb of north Houston, called The Woodlands.

TJ:  You are very early in the process of owning your own vomFASS SHOP, but have you chosen a location yet?

MP:  We have not signed a lease yet of course, but I am looking at a location just a few blocks from our home.

TJ:  Wow, that’s fast.  So then you plan to open your shop in The Woodlands?

MP:  The Woodlands, absolutely yes, but we’re considering a couple of locations actually.

TJ:  When do you hope to open your shop?

MP:  Our plans currently are to open in late February or early March, 2016.

TJ:  Tell me Maria, how did you find out about vomFASS?

MP:  Actually, from the Las Vegas store.  We were on vacation and we wandered into the Venetian shop area.  We started tasting the whiskies and cognacs and just fell in love with the concept.

TJ:  What a great story.  How long ago was that?

MP:  It was in February of this year.  As soon as we got home we began researching the company.  Then, of course, the shipment arrived of all of the wonderful things we bought and we were even more convinced.

TJ:  Who will be working at your new vomFASS shop?

MP:  I will be full time at the store, and of course, my employees.

TJ:  So your husband, Arturo, will keep his current occupation.

MP:  Yes, although I think he will help me with the books and legalities.

TJ:  What is Arturo’s occupation?

MP:  He has a logistics company.

TJ:  Looking back, what was the most appealing aspect of vomFASS for you?

MP:  The difference in the products.  There are many liquors and oils everywhere that you can buy, but at vomFASS you have the tastings where you can really sense the high quality of the products.  The international aspect of vomFASS also intrigued us.

TJ:  I detect a charming accent Maria, and I am guessing you were not born in the United States.

MP:  I was born and raised in Mexico City.

TJ:  How about Arturo?

MP:  He also was born in Mexico City.

TJ:  How long did you live in Mexico before you came to the States?

MP:  Let’s see, I came to the US when I was twenty.  My husband had a wonderful job offer here, so we moved.  He was on a working visa at the time, so we settled in to raise a family.

TJ:  How many children do you and Arturo have?

MP:  We have four and the oldest one is now 25.

TJ:  With your wonderful heritage and location in the Houston area, do you anticipate serving the Hispanic community?

MP:  There’s an enormous Hispanic community here. Since we speak both languages we will be well placed to serve this established community.  Also, my son who lives in Houston speaks fluent German, just in case.

TJ:  You mentioned that you had ordered many products from your Las Vegas vomFASS visit.  Are you cooking with any yet?

MP:  (laughing) Actually we didn’t learn as much about the oils and vinegars as we should have.  We spent most of our time learning and sampling the liquors.  When we had our Experience Day in Madison, which was when we really learned about the oils and vinegars.  We fell in love with those products as well, especially the Aceto Balsamic Maletti. I’m a basic cook, but the Truffle Oil and Porcini Oil, these products definitely make me look better.

TJ:  Have you found a favorite vomFASS product?

MP:  It would have to be the Maletti Balsamic.  I love it.

TJ:  Do you have a recipe you’d like to share using the Maletti?

MP:  Absolutely.  Here’s my favorite bruschetta.

TJ:  Thanks Maria.
