Scot Lehr and Paul Rocchio of the IFA and Justin Gibson and Jeff Young of vomFASS USA toast the newest vomFASS shop at the Venetian.

newest international franchisees

The International Franchise Association (IFA) held their 55th Annual Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. In attendance at the February 2015 event were IFA executives Scott Lehr and Paul Rocchio. Both Lehr and Rocchio visited the new vomFASS location at the Venetian and marveled at the spectacular growth of vomFASS franchises. In just 6 short years vomFASS USA has grown to 25 successful shops. vomFASS AG has almost 300 shops worldwide, locations in 30 countries, with the largest concentrations in Germany, Switzerland, USA and Austria. The brand continues to spread internationally with shops opening this year in Hong Kong and Johannesburg.

Although it is easy to think that franchising is an American concept, the history actually dates back as far as 200 B.C. in China, according to Michael Seid in his essay “Where it all Began, the Evolution of Franchising.” Seid follows the inception and evolution of franchising to the model we know it today. Statistics are exceedingly hard to find on the numbers of franchises worldwide, it is commonly thought that the US is the greatest exporter of franchises. In contrast, vomFASS is one of the few franchises based in Germany and exported to the US.

The International Franchise Association has worked to educate franchisors and franchisees on beneficial methods and business practices to improve franchising. The IFA believes franchising is a dynamic and evolving method of expansion and business ownership. Beginning with the adoption in 1970 of the first franchise disclosure requirement in California; working with the Federal Trade Commission to achieve the first national franchise disclosure rule in 1979; continuing with their efforts that contributed to changes to the federal Franchise Rule in 2007; and ensuring an ongoing constructive dialogue between their leadership and federal and state regulators and government leaders, the IFA has continually worked for improvements to pre-investment franchise disclosure and franchise relations.

Through the considerable and continuing efforts of the association and its members, the IFA has contributed to the growth and stability of franchising in the United States. It is because of the historic and continuing efforts of the IFA and its members to improve pre-investment disclosure and advance beneficial franchising practices that franchising is one of the most important vehicles today for the creation of small businesses ownership and jobs in the United States.

The IFA convention coincided with the opening of the first vomFASS shop in Nevada. Veteran vomFASS franchisees, Kim and Gary Weiss, opened their third store within the Grand Canal Shoppes in the Venetian. The Weiss’ have perfected the “tourist” location model with other successful stores in Sedona, Arizona and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Venetian shop will stay open until 11 pm, to better serve the Las Vegas lifestyle.

When customers visit Vom Fass Las Vegas, they not only get to enjoy the products they purchase, but they have the added benefit of access to Kim Weiss and her personal knowledge.

“After visiting us in the store, our customers’ experience doesn’t end. On our website, newsletter and social media I provide tips and expert advice on how to best use the products, along with regular updates of my very own tried and true recipes, including those using my favorite product, the Calamansi Balsam!” said Weiss.
