Greenville loves its artisan oils and vinegars. The Upstate is getting another specialty store this year.
vomFASS, the international fine oil and vinegar store known for providing customers with a “from the cask” experience has announced it will open a store in Greenville this summer.
The new store will be located at The Point on Woodruff Road next door to Whole Foods.
“Greenville offers so much as far as foodie culture,” said Bill Martin, who is partnering with his brother, Mike, and sister-in-law, Jean, on the project. “There is a real appreciation of food and taste here.”
Martin brings years of experience in the sales and marketing world, and a lifetime love of food, he said. So when his sister-in-law mentioned the idea of bringing vomFASS to Greenville, he jumped at the opportunity.
vomFASS, which started in Germany, now has nearly 300 stores worldwide and 20 in the United States. The store specializes in offering fine European oils, vinegars, spices, spirits and wines. All products are sourced from heavily vetted producers and contain no preservatives, coloring agents or chemical additives of any kind.
One of the more interesting parts of vomFASS is the variety of products, Martin said. In addition to aged spirits like whiskey, cognac and brandy, the store will feature a range of specialty oils and vinegars. The wellness oils are particularly unique, including ones like evening primrose, which is good for eczema, and argon, which is great for hair.
The vinegars are mostly of the balsamic variety, and like the other products, are sourced from European producers, and are made entirely of fruit with no additives. They are equally varied, including varieties like star fruit and raspberry, fig chili and apple.
The vomFASS store will be divided into alcoholic products and non-alcoholic products, all stored in special casks and available for sampling.
“It’s an experience, is what we call it,” Martin said. “It’s multisensory.”
vomFASS joins oil and vinegar specialty stores Palmetto Olive Oil Co., located on Augusta Road, and Oil & Vinegar, located at NOMA Square. The fact that Greenville boasts the specialty stores is a testament to the community, Martin said.
The local store will offer daily product demonstrations and weekly cooking demonstrations that will allow patrons a chance to see a product in action.
“We’re so excited to work with everybody in the culinary world here in Greenville — all the chefs, mixologists,” Martin said.
vomFASS is set to open in July.
