vomFASS Sarasota

Robert Kay’s decision to join the vomFASS franchise team sprung from a rather unexpected circumstance almost half way around the world. While serving with the National Guard overseas, he decided to travel to Europe during a brief vacation leave and met his wife, Debbie and their daughter in Germany. “I got a two-week break from Afghanistan, and rather than fly home, we decided to meet in Germany.”

There he stumbled upon a vomFASS location near the Garmisch-Partenkirchen mountain resort in the Bavarian hillsides of southern Germany. Struck by the unique line of products, he began looking into a vomFASS franchise opportunity of his own upon returning home after realizing the potential business prospects of offering authentic gourmet products to Sarasota, FL. “We fell in love with vomFASS. Debbie fell in love with the products and I fell in love with all the customers going in and coming out with shopping bags.”

After getting in touch with vomFASS USA to discover whether a franchise opportunity was right, his conversations with vomFASS USA’s Franchise Team proved productive to say the least. Together, they constructed a business plan, which soon transformed into a franchise reality in a high-traffic area of the city.

With a history of sales experience on his side, his decision to pursue a franchise opportunity with vomFASS came easy when compared to the less-than-attractive alternatives he considered.

“I looked at a long list and almost immediately dismissed nearly every other option.”

Happy with his decision to pursue his long-term business goals with vomFASS, the day-to-day dynamics of owning a franchise fall equally between Robert and his wife and business partner, Debbie.

With a background in accounting, compliance management as well as operations management, Robert relies on Debbie to manage their franchise store’s back-of-house duties. “Debbie is very much a part of the business. She does most of the administrative work and is well-suited to do it.”

When it comes to Robert’s background, his wide-ranging experience in sales and practical knowledge of retail combine with an understanding of staff management to create a welcoming in-store atmosphere in which customers feel comfortable. With a knowledgeable, friendly attitude toward customer engagement, visitors can take the opportunity to relax and enjoy the experience of learning about the unique vomFASS product line in the comfort of a fun, clean, and organized retail environment.

This attention to customer engagement and having an interactive retail setting has already lead residents to develop a fondness for the store after only months of operation. On top of this, the Kays’ estimate nearly every one of their new customers say they are experiencing vomFASS for the first time upon entering the Sarasota store.

“At first, customers need to get their head around the concept of having all of these exceptional products available in the same store. Everyone is used to having one or another––it’s a definite adjustment.”

This adjustment seems to be working, considering that Robert estimates roughly half of their customers on any given day are returning to try new flavors and delve further into the vomFASS product catalog.

Perhaps the most eye-opening observation Robert has made about his quickly developing customer-base is the referral network already growing between his new customers. “They’re going out of their way to spread the word about the store themselves.”
