vomFASS Ft. Collins

After stopping into a vomFASS location while on vacation, the two were instantly struck by the quality of the products they had sampled and grabbed a business card from the counter before returning home to Fort Collins. It was then they realized they had stumbled on the opportunity they were looking for: a chance to work together in an industry they were passionate about.

Dustin, a former serviceman with years of experience in the food service industry, and Lesli, a media specialist with a firm understanding of advertising ultimately made the decision to combine their know-how into a business endeavor they could pursue together––a vomFASS store of their very own.

“We were so in awe of the concept, it was like vacation.”

Dustin remembers the initial franchise process being more than he had imagined. Friendly corporate contacts that carefully helped them through the process made things immensely easier, and their openness to all applicants regardless of background experience made it a level playing field for all involved.

The Tanskis’ success as vomFASS franchise owners is a perfect example of how franchise partners can combine an array of experiences with a passionate eagerness to learn something entirely new and exciting. In this case, their passion for fine food and drink made vomFASS a perfect match.

Applying a strong sense of management structure gained during his experience in the armed services, Dustin found himself well suited to be an effective store owner. Combine this with his many years of customer-facing experience in the food service industry and it’s not hard to tell why customers come back just to interact with him and the exclusive products he’s proud to showcase.

“Owners should establish a relationship of trust and reliability within just a few seconds.”

For Dustin, first impressions and quickly established customer relationships are two of the ways he strives to make his vomFASS store into an experience not often found elsewhere.

Lesli’s background in media advertising has also fed into the couple’s success as vomFASS franchise partners. Typically managing the various ways the store reaches out to the community, her knack for knowing what resonates well with customers brings the look and feel of their store in line with the friendly inviting atmosphere they create together inside the store.

“One of the most fulfilling parts of being a franchise owner is seeing yourself become the leader you know you could be.”

While Dustin and Lesli still find themselves adjusting to the responsibilities of owning a franchise for the first time, they both enjoy a sense of personal fulfillment that wasn’t possible in the past. Although the hurdles of store ownership can be entirely new obstacles to face, they’ve found their ability to solve problems creatively has made the business as rewarding as it is challenging.

When asked what advice they would have liked to have as newcomers to the vomFASS family, the Tanskis both expressed the importance of proficient bookkeeping and financial planning. While the opportunity is open to everyone regardless of prior business experience, it’s best to prepare yourself with a solid understanding of both the front-end and back-end aspects of franchise ownership.
