Consumers’ concerns these days include the importance of the origins of the products their family consumes and the ever growing urgency of protecting our environment.  These vital topics were recently addressed by Thomas Kiderlen, CEO vomFASS.

Let’s talk about how vomFASS encourages recycling.  There are very few phrases that generate buzz like “eco-friendly.”  Both industry and consumers are eager to embrace the eco-friendly movement for very good reasons.  It is of no benefit “trashing” the environment, leaving the mess for our next generation to clean up–if they even can.  Landfills continue to grow, but the recycling/reusing/repurposing efforts have made significant inroads to waste management as today’s stewards of the earth welcome more eco-friendly practices.

vomFASS has espoused reuse of their bottles from the start of the franchise, over 20 years ago and customers have overwhelmingly adopted this environmentally sound practice. Rinsing, drying and bringing the vomFASS bottles back to the store for refilling requires a small extra effort by customers, but reaps both environmental and economic benefits.

Last year, vomFASS freshly bottled approximately 1,700,000 liters of our fine specialties directly in reusable bottles. This is the equivalent of over 3,400,000 conventional plastic bottles. Lined up they would span from Chicago, IL to Madison, WI! We’re sure Mother Nature loves our green and sustainable practices. We saved her a trip from Chicago to Madison!

bottles seen as a logical and cooperative system.  Unfortunately, as wages rose and consumer demand for the convenience of disposable products grew, the reuse of low-value items proved untenable for industry.

Reuse of vomFASS bottles is the ideal eco-friendly approach to a sustainable environment.  Whereas recycling is impactful, reuse is preferable.  Recycling breaks down an item into raw materials which requires energy in both the recycle process as well as that required to make it useful again.  vomFASS recognized 20 years ago that reusable bottles were the key to reducing their environmental footprint.

There are several important advantages of reuse over recycling.  Replacing one reusable bottle reduces the number of bottles that need to be manufactured.  There are considerable reductions in disposal needs and costs.  Businesses and consumers benefit economically by the reuse of bottles.  Recycling is the attempt to clean up our mistakes…..reuse avoids them in the first place!

Arugula Soup

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Dice onion into small ¼” pieces (approximately) and sauté until clear in vomFASS Garlic Herb oil then add mushrooms.
  2. Brown ground beef (or tofu) and garlic with onions and mushrooms.
  3. Add broth. Bring to boil.
  4. While soup is heating to a boil, whisk eggs in a separate bowl until well incorporated.
  5. Once the soup boils, using a wooden spoon, stir the soup quickly in one direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise). Remove spoon and drizzle approximately 1/3 of the egg mixture into still swirling soup.
  6. Let the egg cook for a minute after the soup stops swirling to let the egg set.
  7. Repeat swirling soup/adding egg until the egg mixture is gone.
  8. Add arugula, cover, turn off heat and let sit until arugula is just wilted.
  9. Serve and enjoy.
